Over time even the most stylish of homes can become dated or simply in need of a change. Perhaps the bedroom has become tired looking or the bathroom seems a bit flat and boring – renovations are costly and probably not necessary, nor do you even need to go so far as to paint a room when instead you can easily update the look of a mundane room with new bedding or modern hardware.

Changing out bedding requires little more effort than actually making the bed so why not retire the pastel bedding and go big and bold with black, lime and white bedding? Pick a bold solid color such as orange or purple as the focal point and then add elements of black and white to complete the look. With black and white as the foundation you can then switch out the dominant color as you desire by using decorative pillows, throws, accent rugs and the like to keep it stylish and fresh.

Color is one way to change the look of a room and it’s especially useful in a bathroom where the primary elements of bath sink and toilet will remain the same over time. Introduce color using fabrics – the shower curtain, window treatments, towels and bath rugs offer a broad palette to play with but note that since most bathrooms tend to be on the smaller side it’s best to stick to solid colors instead of prints and patterns which might overwhelm the room.

Another way to modernize a dated bathroom is to replace bath hardware such as drawer pulls and knobs on the vanity; replace and/or add new towel bars, towel rings and robe hooks at the same time. Improve the bath and shower experience with a new shower head, handheld shower or shower system and help to conserve water in the process.
